Collage Explorations
I love paper! I’ve been collecting ephemera and cutting stuff out of magazines, books and newspapers for many years. My boxes of clippings would tower over me if I had them in one stack. Anything is fair game. Paper placemats and napkins, junk mail, wrapping paper, even bits of paper trash found on the street. Finding images, cutting, envisioning, pasting….all good! And I find that just cutting paper with scissors is a contemplative act and relaxing.
There are many types of collage, and I’m always experimenting. I keep a journal that I use exclusively for collage when the mood hits me. I might do a double-page dream board or a collage inspired by a creativity group meeting or just whatever comes together in a way that I like. I can’t show most of those entries because I primarily use copyrighted images from magazines. I have several collage classes I’ve signed up for over the years on tap for ideas. The collage “painting” on the Studio page is in a very particular style from such a class.
Intuitive collage, SoulCollage®, journaling with collage, abstract collage, pictures crafted from cut bits of paper (cut out or painted paper) — lots of opportunities for exploration and expression. I love junk journals filled with ideas cut from magazines, books, whatever. I’ll be including more here in this part of my studio.
